Defeat for the Sky Blues...

13 April 2024

The Sky Blues fell to defeat against Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.

It was a bright start from the Sky Blues and they had the game’s first chance after a blistering run from Milan van Ewijk eventually ended with the ball falling back at the feet of the Dutchman and he saw his shot deflect narrowly wide.

At the other end, a ball into the box fell at the feet of Koji Miyoshi and he took a touch before firing the ball into the side netting.

Birmingham would be the side to break the deadlock when Keshi Anderson’s ball across the box came off Bobby Thomas and diverted past Brad Collins.

City came within inches of drawing level when John Ruddy came out of his area to clear the ball, but it only went as far as Haji Wright and the American looked to lift the ball over the Birmingham ‘keeper, but his effort came back off the crossbar.

The hosts doubled their lead just before the break after a corner was cleared only as far as Ivan Sunjic and he rifled the ball into the back of the net.

HALF-TIME: Birmingham City 2-0 Sky Blues

Mark Robins made three changes at the break, as he introduced Jay Dasilva, Josh Eccles and Fabio Tavares.

City were on the front foot, and they almost had a goal back within seconds of the restart, but Ben Sheaf’s strike from the edge of the area whistled over the bar.

Birmingham stretched their lead to three on the hour mark and it was a through ball from Tyler Roberts which was finished off by Jay Stansfield.

City pushed to get back into the game, but they ultimately fell to defeat at St Andrew’s.
