REPORT: Coventry City 2-3 Hull City

Defeat for the Sky Blues...

24 April 2024

The Sky Blues fell to defeat against Hull City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The first opportunity of the game fell to the visitors, and it was a shot from range by Abdülkadir Ömür which Brad Collins had to push behind for a corner.

An attack down the left saw Jade Philogene beat his man and pick out Tyler Morton in the middle, but he couldn’t find the target, firing over the bar.

Philogene would be the man to make the breakthrough on the half-hour mark, as his shot went past Collins and into the back of the net.

City were level minutes later when Kasey Palmer struck an unstoppable free-kick from 25-yards out, leaving Allsop helpless.

Collins was called into action at the other end following the restart, making a fine stop to keep out a Philogene effort from inside of the area.

Hull were presented an opportunity to retake the lead when Joel Latibeaudiere was adjudged to have brought down Liam Delap in the area.

Fabio Carvalho stepped up to take the penalty and he beat Collins to restore the Tigers lead just before half-time.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 1-2 Hull City

Mark Robins made a double change at the break, introducing Ellis Simms and Haji Wright, as he looked for a way back into the game,

That would come just under 15 minutes after the restart when Jay Dasilva picked out Bobby Thomas at the back post and he headed the ball past Allsop to make it 2-2.

Ryan Giles came on after the hour mark and he picked out Carvalho in the box, but he was unable to divert his attempt towards goal, firing over the bar.

The Tigers were back in front ten minutes from time following a mix-up at the back which enable Noah Ohio to make it 3-2.

City almost drew level in stoppage time, but Liam Kitching's header was tipped over the bar by Ryan Allsop in the Hull goal.
