Sky Blues snap up promising young centre-half on a three-year deal
Coventry City have snapped up promising young defender Stuart Urquhart after agreeing a compensation package with Glasgow Rangers.
The 18-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Sky Blues, pending international clearance, and is a prospect manager Steven Pressley believes the club can develop.
He was out of contract at Ibrox but, because Rangers offered him a new deal in the summer, City had to pay compensation due to his age.
Development director Steve Waggott completed those negotiations overnight, allowing Urquhart, who has captained Scotland’s under-18s, to put pen to paper.
Manager Steven Pressley said: “We are absolutely delighted to get Stuart.
“He’s a player I’ve had my eye on for some time and I believe he has a great future ahead of him.
“Stuart will come into our under-21, development squad set-up but, as we have shown this season, the path to the first team is there for every player – no matter how old they are – if they work hard and impress.”
