Matty Godden scored back to back hat-tricks as he helped fire the Sky Blues into the New Year in style.
The striker scored the opening goal with just four mintues on the clock as he headed into the back of the net after getting on the end of a Liam Walsh cross.
Liam Kelly then provided another assist a few moments later when he lifted the ball over the back four for Jordan Shipley who scored his sixth goal of the season.
Tranmere did pull one back before the break through Connor Jennings, but in the second half two more Godden goals secured victory for City.
