After a few close chances by the Sky Blues, the highlight of the half came from Tom Williams when a 30-yard volley forced a great save out of Gavin Ward. The two teams went into the break goalless.

Going into the second half Coventry showed their quality and in the 59th minute the deadlock was broken thanks to Gary McSheffery. Two minutes later the lead was then doubled by Julian Joachim, giving Coventry full control of the game. Even though Peterborough had an uphill battle, it was made in tougher when Sagi Burton-Godwin received his second yellow and put the Posh down to ten men. A consolation goal was scored in the 79th minute by Andy Clarke, but the Sky Blues managed the game to go through to the fourth round.
