Coventry City face Peterborough United on Friday night, as they look to keep up their charge for a play-off position.
The first meeting between the sides was 55 years ago in September 1961, which City lost 3-1 to the Posh at Highfield Road, in League Division three. However, the Sky Blues have gone onto dominate the fixture, winning 12 games, drawing four and only losing two, in the years that have followed.
The most recent victory for City over the Posh came in October, with a remarkable 3-2 comeback triumph. Peterborough were 2-0 up inside 36 minutes with Jermaine Jackson scoring their first on the quarter hour mark, before Erhun Oztumer scored a spectacular second, firing in from 25 yards.
However, Tony Mowbray’s men came out fighting in the second half coming back to win 3-2 at full time. Romain Vincelot got the first with an acrobatic bicycle-kick before Adam Armstrong scored a brace to send the home fans into delirium.
The biggest victory the Sky Blues have recorded over Peterborough was a 4-2 win, at Sixfields back in December 2013. The League One fixture was played in front of 4,000 spectators as Shaun Jeffers grabbed the opening goal before Leon Clarke equalised. However, Lee Tomlin would restore the posh’s lead before Clarke got another before Franck Moussa and Callum Wilson got on the scoresheet to make it 4-2 to the Sky Blues.
