Mowbray has opened discussions with Fleck and the City boss only had positive things to say about the Scottish midfielder.
"He’s not trying to get out of a contract or hold us to ransom, he’s’ just exploring what’s out there,” Mowbray said.
“John Fleck is one of our best players and probably most influential player, who was like the oil in our passing machine earlier in the season, who could play through and link the back to the front.
“He’s worked his socks off, been a very consistent performer and we have to respect that. We should all respect that he’s honoured his contract and worked really hard”
“I don’t see him as a lad who has any agenda in the background. Everything is above board and our conversations are very honest.
The player himself has not ruled out staying at the Ricoh Arena beyond the summer, stating: “I am not too sure what the manager’s finances are but he’d certainly like to keep me and we’ll try and work something out,” Fleck said.
