Coventry City striker George Thomas is eager to make a breakthrough for the Sky Blues this season.

The 18-year old did his chances of a first-team spot no harm with a wonderfully taken goal at Portsmouth on Tuesday night.

But the Welsh Under-19 international is well aware of the fact that the club are looking to strengthen the striking department and believes that any new strikers the club may recruit will help his game improve.

Thomas told the Coventry Telegraph:  “I’d like to force my way in this season and get as many minutes of first team football as I can. I’ve got the next two years to prove myself and I’d like to do it as soon as I can and really help the club get promoted.

“The gaffer’s already shown the level of quality he can bring in and when he looks at strikers he wants to bring in I am sure they’ll be very good.

“That might keep me out of the team but I know it will help my development and make me a better player. The main thing is I want what’s best for the club in order for us to push on for promotion.

“I have already benefited from working with strikers like Marcus Tudgay who has really helped me out by explaining what it’s like to be a striker and what’s needed in senior, competitive football, and I like to think I am learning from players like him and hopefully whoever signs in the next few weeks.”
