City gain new fan after birthday treat!

Young Sky Blues fan Ryan White becomes City for life after an extra special birthday treat with loan striker Nathan Delfouneso

Fledgling Coventry City fan Ryan White was given a birthday to remember by his new heroes.

Ryan, who attends St. Christopher School in the city, was a mascot as the Sky Blues took on Walsall on Wednesday to help celebrate his sixth birthday.

And after warming up with Sky Blue Sam, on-loan striker Nathan Delfouneso approached the youngster for a kick-about during the build-up to the game.

After being captured on Twitter, it caused a social media storm and dad, Jamie, said Ryan is now hooked for life on the Sky Blues.

He said: “He’s just got into football and I definitely wanted him to be a Coventry fan.

“I’ve supported the club since the Highfield Road days when we had players such as Noel Whelan and Cobi Jones.

“I tend to work at weekends so can’t get to all the games but Ryan had been mascot at Notts County a few weeks ago and when we found out there was a chance to do it on his birthday, we thought it would be a nice treat.

“All the players were brilliant with him. Joe Murphy walked him out onto the pitch and then it was great when Nathan came over and warmed up with him.

“Because of that, Ryan was watching him really closely when he came on as sub and was smiling from ear to ear when he got the winning goal. It made it a great evening all-round.”

Delfounseo said: “He had a good technique, to be fair! I just saw him warming up with the club mascot and thought any kid would enjoy it if a player kicked the ball round with them. I’m really glad he enjoyed it.”
