Competition: SkyBet League One

Coventry City welcome Shrewsbury Town to Sixfields looking to bounce back from defeat at Tranmere Rovers.

The Sky Blues suffered a 3-1 defeat against Rovers thanks to goals from Ryan Lowe, Jake Kirby and an own goal from Conor Thomas.

City are currently 13th in the League One table whilst their opponents Shrewsbury are in the relegation zone in 22nd spot.

After finishing 16th in League One last season, the Shrews were looking to continue their progress up the League table this season.

However, the club currently find themselves in 22nd position in League One and long-serving manager Graham Turner resigned in January following a poor run of results.

Former caretaker boss Michael Jackson has been given the job on a full-time basis and has been tasked with keeping the club in League One.

The Shrews got a crucial three points at Notts County last weekend as a brace from Jon Taylor and a winner from David McAllister secured a 3-2 win over ten-men County.

The two sides have played each other 27 times with Shrewsbury claiming a narrow advantage over the Sky Blues with 10 wins to City’s nine.

Before the Jimmy Hill Sky Blue revolution which saw the Sky Blues climb up the Football League, this was a regular fixture with the first match between the two sides played in 1952.

Jon Taylor

The 21-year old began his career at Shrewsbury Town and is now fast approaching 100 appearances for Graham Turner’s side.

He made 39 appearances for the Shrews last season and was one of the side’s consistent performers, scoring six goals from midfield.

Taylor has continued his good form this season for Shrewsbury, having 25 league appearances this season, scoring six goals which makes him the Shrews' top-scorer.

He has been looked at by a number of Championship clubs which shows Taylor is one of the brightest talents in League One.

Jermaine Grandison

The former Coventry City Academy product is expected to be in the match-day squad for Shrewsbury on Sunday.

Having progressed through the City Academy, he made five first-team appearances for the club whilst also spending time on loan at Tranmere Rovers and Shrewsbury Town.

After he joined the Shrews on a free transfer in January 2011 and has made over 50 appearances for the side, having just recovered from a long-term injury.

Dave Bennett

The FA Cup legend and Dave Bennett enjoyed his best spell of football with Coventry City having been part of the famous 1987 FA Cup winning side.

He started his career at Manchester City and became a first team regular at Maine Road, featuring the FA Cup final replay of 1981; a replay the Citizens lost 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur.

He was surprisingly sold to Third Division side Cardiff City the season after but helped promote the side to the Second Division in his two years at the club.

He signed for Coventry in July 1983 and went on to spend six successful years at the club which was capped off by his Man of the Match performance in the 1987 FA Cup final.

He left the club in 1989 after suffering from injury and moved to Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon Town. Whilst at Swindon, he went out on loan to Shrewsbury Town to regain match fitness but broke his leg in his second appearance for the club to end his professional career.
