'Happy to be playing again' - Barton

7 October 2013

Adam Barton has admitted he is delighted to be playing for the first team, even if it is out of position...

Coventry City midfielder Adam Barton has started the last two games for the Sky Blues, and he has admitted he is loving every minute.

The 22-year old has struggled to break into the City midfield this season with both John Fleck and Conor Thomas starting every game so far in central midfield.

However, captain Carl Baker is currently out of the City side with a calf injury which means Barton has come into the side to fill the right midfield position.

Whilst he admits it isn't his natural position, he is delighted to be playing first-team football for Coventry.

The former PNE man said: "In the game against Brentford, I found it difficult on the right side as we didn't get the ball down and do what we usually do.

"But on Saturday, I found it much better as we were able to get the ball down and play it around the way we have been doing this season.

"It is a bit foreign for me on the right wing but the gaffer has told me exactly what he needs from me and hopefully, I have been doing that.

"I am happy to be playing again as it has been a bit difficult this season but I really want to kick on and impress for the club."

Conor Thomas is one game away from suspension due to the amount of yellow cards he has accumulated already this season.

Pressley said he is considering pulling Thomas out of the Johnstone Paint Trophy match against Leyton Orient, with an important game against Sheffield United in League One on Sunday.

That change would mean Barton would get his chance in the central position, a chance he would relish.

He added: "Of course, I would like to get my chance playing in central midfield but it is difficult seeing that Conor (Thomas) and John (Fleck) have played so well.

"They have done everything they need to do so there hasn't been a reason to not let them play. I am dying to play in that position though.

"It is a position I am more accustomed to but I suppose playing right midfield means I am learning a bit more about the game.

"I am just happy to be playing for the first team and hopefully I will figure again against Leyton Orient."
