Blair Adams played 45 minutes as City U-21's ran out 7-0 winners at Ryton...

Coventry City left-back Blair Adams played 45 minutes for the Under-21's in a 7-0 win over Strachan Football Federation XI.

Lewis Rankin and Shaun Jeffers both grabbed a brace with Louis Garner, Ben Maund and Eli Bako adding to the scoreline.

In a friendly played at Ryton training ground, Adams played in his first match since suffering a groin injury against Yeovil in February.

Danny Philliskirk, Joe Henderson and Josh Ruffels also started for City as Lee Carsley's side went ahead in the 11th minute.

After a neat passing move, Jeffers was found inside the area before turning his defender and finding the net with a low effort.

City continued to dominate the game with both Lewis Rankin and Danny Philliskirk testing the opposition keeper inside the first 20 minutes.

In the 21st minute, Adams was able to burst down the left side, combine with Philliskirk and Ruffels, before the latter put his low shot past the left-hand post.

Just two minutes later, City doubled their lead. Rankin found space outside the area before turning his defender, finding Garner to his right and it was Garner who found the bottom corner.

Scorer turned provider in the 27th minute as Garner exploited his space outside the area to find Rankin and he slotted home past the keeper.

Roberts forced the keeper into a great save with a fierce near-post drive in the 34th minute and Joe Henderson hit the side netting as the game approached half-time.

Henderson almost scored as his header hit the bar before Rankin scored his second of the game. City played a short corner to Philliskirk who found Rankin with a first-time ball and he whipped his effort into the top corner.

Carsley's side continued to dominate after the break with Jeffers getting City's fifth of the game with an outstanding strike in the 60th minute. The City forward collected a long ball 30 yards out before flicking the ball over his defender and finding the top corner on the half-volley.

Substitute Ben Maund added a sixth five minutes later before City keeper Shane Fagan was forced a double save from Charlie Cook.

Eli Bako slammed home a seventh after good work inside the area from Rankin and Jamie Calvin with 15 minutes remaining.

Rankin had chances to get his hat-trick but the game ended 7-0 to City.
