Barton features in Irish defeat

Adam Barton plays in 2-1 defeat in Hungary...

Coventry City midfielder Adam Barton featured in the Republic of Ireland Under-21’s 2-1 loss to Hungary.

The 21-year old came on in the 70th minute for Rhys Murphy, the former Arsenal youngster who is now playing in Holland with Telstar, as the side slipped to a disappointing defeat.

All the goals came in the first-half with Leicester City’s Marko Futacs and Ferencváros’ István Kovács putting the home side 2-0 up before Robbie Brady replied from the penalty spot.

Noel King’s side couldn’t find the equaliser meaning they now have no chance of qualifying for the UEFA U-21 Championships.

The side travel to Giuseppe Capozza Stadium in Casarano in Italy for their final group game on Tuesday.
