Baker blasts 'unacceptable' performance

1 August 2012

The City midfielder also reveals the manager's frustrations after the 4-1 loss to Wrexham

Sky Blues midfielder Carl Baker revealed Andy Thorn ‘had a right go’ at the players after their ‘unacceptable’ Wrexham performance.

The former Stockport man, who has spoke of his desire to improve his game for the Sky Blues this season, played the full 90 minutes at the Racecourse Ground.

The 29-year old wasn’t happy with the result after the match and said the City boss made his feelings known to the players in the dressing room.

Baker said: “It was an unacceptable performance from the players and none of us are happy with what has happened tonight.

“The manager has made sure we know he is not happy with that. Him, Richard Shaw and Lee Carsley have had a right go and it’s completely deserved if I’m honest.

“It is not enough from us and we have to improve. I suppose we want it to happen now though in pre-season where we can work on it and get things right.

“We need to put a few wrongs right and as long as we go into the Yeovil game firing and playing well, then all this can be forgotten about.

“The defending wasn’t acceptable as we got lads turning their back on the ball which you can’t do. You got to be prepared to take a ball in the face to stop goals.”

The midfielder has previous experience at League One level with Stockport County and he believes Coventry have to improve if they are going to be up to the test.

He added: “I have just told all the lads in there that we will have to do better if we are going to do what is we want to do next season.

“We have two weeks now and time will fly by so there is a lot of work to be done. We are much better than that and we know that.

“I have no doubt we will improve before the season starts and I am sure we will respond to this in the other pre-season games before that.”
