Trialist scores as City go out

24 October 2013

City trialist nets but Notts County progress in the Barclays Premier League Under-21 Cup with a 2-1 win...

Coventry City were knocked out of the Barclays Premier League Under-21 Cup by Notts County at Nuneaton Town.

The Sky Blues had several first team players in the side with Aaron Phillips captaining the side, Adam Barton starting in midfield and Mathieu Manset up front.

The home side started the stronger and went ahead after 20 minutes through Trialist after good work from Manset.

The French striker got past two Notts County defenders on the byline before producing a low cross for Trialist to slot home.

City should have doubled their lead five minutes later when Trialist did well down the right side to cross for Manset, but his header failed to hit the target.

Just before half-time, the Magpies were level when former Bury man Andy Haworth crossed from the left for Adam Coombes to force Lee Burge into a great save, but Elliott Hodge slotted home the rebound.

Manset should have put City back ahead shortly after the break when the Trialist centred for the striker to slot home but County defender Hayden Hollis produced a fine goal-line clearance.

Minutes later, County went ahead when Coombes broke through the City defence and finished past Lee Burge to seal County's passage into the third round.
