"The vast majority of the squad will play some part against Newport and Watford." - Coventry City manager Steven Pressley

The City boss has also challenged his squad to work their way into his starting XI against Bradford City in 11 days time...

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has confirmed the 'vast majority' of the City squad will play some part against Newport County tonight.

The City squad travel to Spytty Stadium to face League Two side Newport County, with kick-off 7.30pm, in the first pre-season friendly of a four-game week.

The Sky Blues returned from their pre-season tour of Italy on Saturday night having won against AS Roma B, drawn against AEL Kalloni and suffered defeat against Chievo Verona.

With the squad set to go through a challenging week, Pressley has confirmed the majority of the squad will travel to Newport and Watford tomorrow night.

Pressley said: "The intention was to have two separate groups this week but because of the disruption to the games programme, that's not quite going to happen.

"The likelihood is that on Tuesday and Wednesday, the vast majority of the group will play some part in both games. All 22 players will be involved in both games.

"But then on Friday and Saturday, the group will then be split where both groups will then get a chance to play 90 minutes against either Bristol Rovers and Stevenage.

"We need to get additional game-time for certain players. It is a great week for us and it helps get the group in the best shape possible."

It is only 11 days until the Sky Blues start the 2014/15 League One season at Valley Parade against Bradford City.

With the start of the season drawing closer, Pressley has revealed he hasn't decided on his starting XI for the game against Bantams.

He added: "I've made it clear in recent weeks that everyone in the squad is vying for a place in the starting XI and those places are up for grabs.

"There are no guarantees at this club that anybody will play. During my 18 months in charge, I've made that pretty evident with my team selections.

"I'm a manager who believes if you're playing well and performing, you'll be in the team regardless of age or experience.

"Everybody is battling for a place in the side so it is a big week for the squad."
