The new injury to Aaron Phillips provoked the manager to confirm that signing Matthew Pennington will be in the match-day squad for Walsall...

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has revealed that Aaron Phillips could be facing three to four weeks out of action after suffering an injury in training.

The full-back will join Jordan Willis, Seb Hines and Danny Pugh on the sidelines after picking up the injury in training in the week.

Pressley believes that the signing of Matthew Pennington has become more crucial with the full-back's injury and is pleased to have secured the 20-year-old as defence has been a problematic area for City with injuries.

"Matthew will bring a youthfulness energy and a terrific attitude," Pressley said.

"We watched him this week and watched him on Monday night at Everton against Celtic. We spoke to Ronnie Moore about him and every source has paid testament to his character which is one of the most important aspects. He can play at centre-back or right-back so he's a player who can fill in very comfortably.

"He will be in the mix tomorrow especially as we have a little bit of an injury crisis with Hines and Pugh long-term absentees, Willis struggling and Phillips now out for up to three-to-four weeks.

"We go into the christmas period with four fit defenders so it's far from ideal but it was so important we got someone in."
