BETTING PREVIEW: Coventry City favourites with SkyBet to beat Plymouth Argyle in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tonight

12 November 2014

The Sky Blues have every chance with the bookmakers to make it through to the Area Semi Finals as they take on the League Two Pilgrims...

Coventry City take on Plymouth Argyle tonight in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Area Quarter Final at the Ricoh Arena, and the bookies indicate that the Sky Blues could be on course to reach the Semi Finals for the second time in three seasons.

City are 5/6 favourites to get the job done, whilst the Pilgrims are 16/5 with SkyBet. The draw is 13/5, which would see the game go straight to a penalty shoot-out.

Draws aren't a popular result in this fixture, with only nine having been recorded over the years. If you want the cushion just in case, Coventry no bet comes in at 1/3, short odds which replicate the Sky Blues' status as favourites.

In light of Steven Pressley's message to his players yesterday, there may be some changes ahead of tonight's clash. In terms of first and last goal corers, that means there could be some big value in the outsiders. Remember that if you back a first or last goalscorer and that player doesn't play any part of the game, you get your stake back.

James Maddison has continued to impress since breaking into the first team earlier this season, and he is 12/1 to get his first goal at the Ricoh Arena. Ryan Haynes is 33/1 to follow up his spectacular strike against Peterborough.

Frank Nouble is the 9/2 favourite, with Gary Madine, Simeon Jackson and Josh McQuoid all 5/1 just behind him.

For Plymouth the main danger is Reuben Reid. The player of the year last year has continued his goalscoring form, and is 11/2 to break the deadlock tonight. Marvin Morgan and Lewis Alessandra are 8/1 second favourites for the Pilgrims.

There is bound to be a backlash after the Sky Blues' disappointment at losing to Worcester in the FA Cup, and although the Pilgrims should not be taken likely, City to win and over 2.5 goals in the match looks a great bet.

Hot Tip: Coventry and Over 2.5 Goals in match - 7/4

Longshot: Gary Madine to score first, Coventry to win 3-1 - 45/1
