"We have to be effective for 95 minutes. That has been the problem all season." - Coventry City's Russell Slade

City's points gap continues to grow, as Bury's push for survival gets a further boost...

The Sky Blues suffered defeat at Gigg Lane, as two first-half goals from James Vaughan and Tom Pope proved enough to earn Bury all three points.

The Shakers have consequently climbed in to 18th, putting further distance between themselves and the dreaded drop zone.

Russell Slade commented in the aftermath of the loss: “In the first period, our purpose wasn’t great, we made errors at the back and they have buried opportunities. Not enough intent.

“That changed in the second period, we had more intensity and changed the shape. It isn’t about shapes and systems, we’ve tried every one possible. It injected a bit of life in to us and managed to get us back in the game.

“More intent to get forward and cause them problems, really smart goal. But unfortunately weren’t able to build on that.”

Stuart Beavon netted a consolation for the away side, after the introduction of Ryan Haynes at the halfway point, but City were unable to further capitalise.

Slade added: “It looked quite effective, but we have to be effective for 95 minutes. That has been the problem all season. There had to be a reaction at half-time, we were 2-0 down in a football match that was very important.

“It was better in the second-half, but it wasn’t enough. Reilly, Foley and Vernam all had chances, we were on top after we got the goal. There was panic on their bench.

“We imposed ourselves on the game in the second period. We have to fight like it is our last breath. It matters, to the club and the supporters. It is these players careers and they have to protect that.”
