Under-21s fall to Terriers defeat

15 October 2013

A young City Under-21s side were beaten by Huddersfield Town at Ryton...

Coventry City Under-21s succumbed to defeat against Huddersfield Town in the Under-21 Premier League.

After a tight first-half, Daniel Carr netted a second-half brace to seal the win for the Terriers at Ryton.

It was Carr who had the first chance of the game for the away side when after good work down the left-side, Carr headed over the bar from 12 yards out.

Just before the half-hour mark, the impressive Duane Holmes went close when he fired a powerful shot from outside the area but Lee Burge saved well.

Billy Daniels had City's only chance of the half a minute later when he curled his 25-yard free-kick just over the bar.

The Sky Blues started slowly in the second half and were punished by Huddersfield when Carr finished from close range after a left-sided cross wasn't cleared by the City defence.

City weren't short on effort and kept pushing forward which almost lead to a goal for the Trialist in the 56th minute. Aaron Phillips played a long ball forward which was controlled well by the Trialist but his chipped effort didn't beat Ian Bennett in the Terriers net.

Huddersfield doubled their lead eight minutes later when Paul Mullin's right-sided cross was headed in off-the-post by Carr.

Phillips went close again after substitute James Maddison beat several players down the left-side and played in the right-back who fired narrowly wide from 20 yards out.

Mullin could have notched a third for the Terriers with a close-range header at the back-post but Burge pulled off a brilliant save as the Sky Blues fall to defeat at Ryton.
