Josh Eccles continued the proud history of the academy promoting youth players into the first team when he signed his first deal with the club.

The midfielder then signed a new deal, months after his first following an impressive run of displays.

He then made his debut for the Sky Blues when he started in midfield at the Jonny Rocks Stadium against Cheltenham Town in EFL Trophy action. Eccles was also a regular for the Under-23s, as they reach the Professional Development League semi-final in the 2018/19 campaign.

The 2019/20 season saw Eccles handed more first team opportunities, including his football league debut and his first start in the 2-1 win over Rochdale.

Ahead of the 2020/21 campaign, Josh joined League One side Gillingham on loan, where he made 14 appearances for the Gills before returning to City.

Eccles became the top scorer for the Under-23s and his performances earned him more first team appearances, including a Championship debut following by a Championship start, ending the 2020/21 campaign with nine appearances.
