NEWS: Coventry City supporting Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge 2024

29 May 2024

Coventry City are delighted to be supporting the Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge!

The ‘Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge’ is back, and this time presents a Paris 2024 Special as we look forward to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the French capital.

The ‘Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge – Paris 2024 Special’ is open to all Coventry schools and residents to enter and will last for 29 days from 9th June – 7th July.

30 parks and green spaces across the city will represent the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic sports, and participants can win virtual medals by scanning QR codes at parks.

The Challenge runs from Sunday 9th June - Sunday 7th July, offering a month-long opportunity for schools and families to stay active for free.

This edition of the Challenge features a simple-to-use point and scoring interface that boasts a virtual medal collection and inter-family competition features via the Go CV system.

Every QR code scanned on visits to the parks means more points to your chosen school. The school with the most points wins the Challenge.

There will also be a range of pop-up taster activities in parks, exciting challenges and opportunities to win spot prizes along the way.

The ‘Go Parks: Active Schools Challenge’ is a partnership between Coventry City Council and Coventry’s School Games Organisers.

Danny Kingham and Stuart Davoile, Coventry School Games Organisers, said: “It’s been nearly 2 years since we held the last Active Schools Challenge and we can’t wait to support the Challenge’s return.

“We want more schools than ever to take part in this fantastic initiative that absolutely anyone can enjoy – any age, any fitness level, any ability. This time, with the Paris 2024 Special, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate the Games in France – the virtual medals is such a fun way of staying active, and encouraging return visits to parks… and trips to new ones to collect them all!

“We're encouraging schools, staff and parents to take part for their own school, but also Coventry residents who can still enjoy the Challenge and select a school to support.”

As with previous Challenges, the Paris 2024 Special will require all participants to be a Go CV member, which will enable them to place votes, track progress and build their virtual medal collection on the Go CV platform.

Those that are not a Go CV member can sign up quickly and easily online, via the Go CV website. Participants are urged to sign up to Go CV ahead of the 9th June start date, to ensure that points can be won from day 1 of the Challenge!

Previous ‘Go Parks: Active Schools Challenges’ have attracted over 100 schools and engaged more than 80,000 residents collectively. The Challenge begins on the same day as the Coventry Children's Mile, allowing families to kickstart their participation in the park immediately following the mile race.

All schools in Coventry are invited to participate in both the event and Challenge and Coventry residents can also take part and enjoy the Active School Challenge and will be able to allocate their points to a school of their choice.
