Job Title: Part Time Club Sport Psychologist 
Location: Sky Blue Lodge, Ryton on Dunsmore
Reporting to: Performance Director
Hours of work: Part-time

Coventry City Football Club is seeking a Club Sport Psychologist to work part-time predominantly with the First Team at the Club’s Training Ground, but with alignment to the Academy Performance Psychology provision.

Working with the Coventry City’s First team, this role will ensure we have proactive and responsive sport performance psychological support to individual players, and the team to help us achieve our collective objectives. Duties will also include the provision of team psychology workshops, the education and development of first team staff and working in alignment with other psychology disciplines to provide a holistic person-centred approach throughout the Club.

The candidate will need to have flexibility to priortise their work with the team, and provide responsive support, including in-person weekly attendance at training.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with an experienced and estbalished Performance Team to develop, implement and evaluate sport performance psychology provision within the Club.  

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:

  • Design, deliver and evaluate a performance psychology curriculum that maximises individual and team elite performance through effective psychological skills training
  • Work in conjunction with first-team staff to help embed performance psychology in all aspects of training, sport science, strength and conditioning, coaching, performance analysis, nutrition, rehabilitation and medicine
  • Be an integral part of an interdisciplinary team delivering ‘gold standard’ performance psychology support to all individuals (within the confines of confidentiality)
  • Undertake individual needs analyses to understand how to design, deliver and evaluate individual psychological support (as necessary)
  • Deliver appropriate support within the limitations of your expertise, and refer to specialist support in a timely manner, where required
  • Be available for consultation with the Manager, the Performance Director and performance staff in between training and matches
  • Maintain up-to-date records of the work undertaken with all individuals

Interdisciplinary Contribution 

  • Offer input, guidance and advice to other performance practitioners
  • Attend interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to provide performance psychology input, where necessary
  • Work in conjunction with other Club staff such as the Head of Safeguarding, Head of Academy Player Care, Player Liaison Manager & Academy Performance Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist and Club Doctor
  • Maintain alignment with the Club’s Academy psychology provision
  • Provide relevant CPD for the Performance Department and Academy, as required

The post-holder may be required to carry out other duties to assist with the smooth functioning of the Performance Department as required by the Manager and/or the Performance Director.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, CRITERIA:

Essential

  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Current holder of British Psychological Society (BPS) Chartered Status, or British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) Sport and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route
  • MSc in Sport Psychology or Psychology (or equivalent)
  • Holds appropriate indemnity to work with first team professional football players
  • UKAD ‘Introduction to Clean Sport’
  • Enhanced DBS
  • The ability to communicate concisely, assertively, and effectively and at all levels
  • Full and valid driving licence
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

  • Experience of working in a professional football environment
  • Safeguarding & Protecting Children/FA Safeguarding Children
