The Sky Blues fell to defeat to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns in Sky Bet Championship action.

Two first half goals put the hosts in the driving seat, as they lead 2-0 heading into the break.

Haji Wright pulled one back from the spot in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Sky Blues suffered a loss on the road.

City fell behind early on at the Hawthorns after Mikey Johnston cut inside from the left and then bent the ball into the top corner from inside of the area.

At the other end, the Sky Blues were looking to draw level instantly and they had chances through Ellis Simms and Kasey Palmer, but neither were able to find the target.

The Sky Blues thought they had their leveller midway through the first half when Josh Eccles struck the ball on the edge of the area, and it went inches wide of goal.

City were applying the pressure, and they were growing into the game, going close again from distance and this time it was Palmer who watched on as his shot went narrowly wide.

West Brom doubled their lead five minutes before the break after a ball down the right was whipped in and met by Grady Diangana six yards out.

Mark Robins introduced Haji Wright at the break and the striker was involved in teeing the ball off for Palmer to try and test the West Brom ‘keeper, but his effort went over the bar.

The midfielder found the ball setting up for him kindly on the volley on the edge of the area, but his strike was well held by Alex Palmer.

City were awarded a penalty 20 minutes from time, after Kasey Palmer was brought down in the area.

Haji Wright stepped-up to take the penalty and he sent Alex Palmer the wrong way to pull one back for the Sky Blues.

City were in search for a leveller and they were trying to find a way in, with shots from Simms and Eccles going narrowly wide.
