City back to winning ways...

5 March 2024

Ellis Simms scored a hat-trick to fire the Sky Blues to three points against Rotherham United.

The striker made it back-to-back hat-tricks at the Coventry Building Society Arena, doing it in the first half once again.

Joel Latibeaudiere and Fabio Tavares scored alongside the striker, as City ran out comfortable winners against the Millers.

It was the perfect start for the Sky Blues, as they took the lead inside the opening five minutes through Ellis Simms.

The striker capitalised on a mistake at the back, when Viktor Johansson dropped the ball in the box and Simms was there to head home inside the six-yard-box.

That lead was double ten minutes later when a Jak Bidwell corner was met by Joel Latibeaudiere in the box, and he headed past Johansson.

It could have been three seconds after the restart when Liam Kitching picked out the run of Josh Eccles and he charged into the box but could only find the side netting.

That miss wouldn’t stop City making it three, as a break saw Simms play the ball out wide to Haji Wright and the striker picked out Simms again in the box and he drilled the ball into the back of the net.

Ellis Simms completed his hat-trick just before half-time, his second in as many games at the Coventry Building Society Arena and this was the pick of the bunch.

Bidwell’s ball into the box was teed up by Wright for the on-running Simms and he let fire and bent the ball into the top corner.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 4-0 Rotherham United

City started the second half brightly and were looking to increase on their tally for the night, with Palmer firing over from range.

Robins made three changes after an hour and two of those combined to nearly grab City’s fifth as Matty Godden picked out Milan van Ewijk in the box, but he headed wide.

The third of those subs to come on was Callum O’Hare and he had a sight at goal when a corner was cleared to him on the edge of the area, but he fired over the bar.

Rotherham had a few chances from set-pieces and a shot from close range which Brad Collins was on hand to save with his feet.

Johansson saved well late into the game to keep out Godden from scoring on his 150th appearance for the club.
