PREVIEW: Sky Blues travel to Vicarage Road this weekend

City take on the Hornets in Championship action...

8 March 2024

The Sky Blues take on Watford this weekend in their final SkyBet Championship fixture before the international break.

Meet the Hornets:

Watford head into this weekend's clash 13th in the Championship, following their 1-1 draw with Swansea City at Vicarage Road in midweek.

That draw against the Swans helped to ensure a sixth defeat in seven games was avoided, after a recent run of results which has seen the Hornets fall away from the play-off places.

Five wins from eight during the back end of 2023 had moved Watford into 7th place heading into Christmas, but since then only two wins have followed in the next 13 fixtures.

Summer signing Mileta Rajović tops the scoring charts for Watford with ten goals in all competitions, with two of those coming against the Sky Blues in the return fixture.

A win for Watford this weekend could see them climb back into the top half of the division and record a first win at Vicarage Road since the 28th November.

Mark Robins' pre-match verdict:

“Watford are a side that came down a few years ago and were expected to go back up at first attempt but didn’t and things change over time and people move on.

They have brought top quality players in, and they have quality all over the pitch and everywhere you look.

They’ve got a few injuries like everyone else, but not too many, but they are expected to be higher on more points for sure, but thankfully that isn’t my job.

Going to Watford is always a difficult challenge and we expect that again tomorrow, we know it’s a tough place to go.”

Watford's last six:

  • Watford 1-1 Swansea City
  • Millwall 1-0 Watford
  • Watford 1-2 Huddersfield Town
  • Rotherham United 0-1 Watford
  • Norwich City 4-2 Watford
  • Watford 1-2 Leicester City

Coventry City's last six:

  • Coventry City 5-0 Rotherham United
  • West Bromwich Albion 2-1 Coventry City
  • Coventry City 5-0 Maidstone United
  • Coventry City 0-3 Preston North End
  • Stoke City 0-1 Coventry City
  • Plymouth Argyle 2-2 Coventry City

Historic record between the two:

Watford wins: 42
Draws: 19
Coventry City wins: 37

Kit colours:

Watford will wear their traditional yellow and black colours, with the Sky Blues sporting the historic sky blue colours.

Match officials:

Robert Madley will be the man in the middle of this weekend's trip to Vicarage Road.

This will be Madley's second City fixture of the season, having been in charge of the 1-1 draw against Swansea City earlier this season.
