PREVIEW: Sky Blues take on Wolves in FA Cup quarter-final

City head to the Molineux this weekend...

15 March 2024

The Sky Blues take on Wolverhampton Wanderes this weekend in the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final.

Meet the Wolves:

After appointing Gary O'Neil as manager five days before the opening day of the 2023/24 season, Wolves have enjoyed a succesful season in his first year at the helm.

Having already recorded the same number of points as they amassed the season before, with ten games remaining in the Premier League, Wolves sit 9th in the table, 2 points behind West Ham United.

If Wolves can jump ahead of the Hammers in the table, then they could find themselves qualifiying for the Europa Conference League, due to Liverpool winning the Carabao Cup.

Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan lead the scoring charts at Molineux with 11 goals in all competitions, with two of Cunha's strikes coming in the FA Cup.

Wolves have seen past Premier League sides Brentford and Brighton & Hove Albion, as well as local rivals West Bromwich Albion to reach this stage of the competition.

Mark Robins' pre-match verdict:

"It's a tough ask, even though Wolves have a lot of injuries. They have so much quality and we just have to hope that we can play well enough to get a good result for themselves and progress through.

"The boot is somewhat one the other foot from the Maidstone game but upsets can happen. This games give us a chance to play against Premier League opponents, and to feel their speed and quality.

"As a manager, this will be brilliant. The competition is world-famous. We want ot do well in it every year and we are still trying to make up for last year.

"We want to make a good account of ourselves and we want to cause them problems. They're a good side. They have players mising and players who will come back and we're planning for every scenario. However, ove scenario that is agive is that they have quality in every position.

"We will have to be on our game. We'll have to move the ball quickly. We'll have to also be calm.

"There's no reason not to look forward to the game. Our fans will be there in their numbers and it will be fantstic.

"I have played in a quarter-final, a semi-final and a final. It's a fantastic competition, still."
