NEWS: RIP Larry Lloyd

28 March 2024

Coventry City are saddened to learn of the death of Larry Lloyd.

Lloyd has died at the age of 75.

Larry joined Coventry City in 1974, with Manager Gordon Milne breaking City's transfer record to sign the centre half who he saw as a linchpin to build his side around. This was on the back of a superb spell at Liverpool, where he won the First Division title and UEFA Cup and was capped by England.

However, it was an injury affected spell at Highfield Road and Lloyd's form suffered as a result, and he moved to Nottingham Forest in December 1976. In total, he had played 54 games for the Sky Blues and scored 6 goals.

At Forest he was rejuvinated - winning the Second Division, the 1977/78 First Division title and then the European Cup in 1979 and 1980 in his 218 matches. He would then enter management with Wigan and Notts County. He later became a publican in Nottingham.

Our condolences are with Larry's family and friends at this sad time.
