INTERVIEW: Milan van Ewijk reflects on victory over Wolves in the FA Cup

16 March 2024

Milan van Ewijk was buzzing after the final whistle, as he helped the Sky Blues book their place into the FA Cup semi-finals.

Haji Wright scored in the 100th minute to complete a turnaround in injury time and set-up a tie at Wembley.

Speaking after the final whistle, Milan said how these are the moments that shows why you become a footballer.

What's the overriding feeling after that game…

“These are the games that I want to play, that I want to show the teams and the players what I can do and help the team out. So, I'm happy to have contributed to it.”

Beating a Premier League team…

“Yeah, I'm happy to have played and seen what the level of a prem team is.

“I'm happy once again that we won the game today and that we're going to Wembley.”

The winning goals deep into added time…

“That's a perfect ending because I think both teams deserve to win.

“I think but just at the end. You can see we wanted it a bit more than them and you can see that we created more chances and it's just absolutely insane to play and to see such goals happening in front of me.

“For Ellis as a striker, you have to be there and he is there every time and also the set that he gave to Haji was just perfect, in his run. And for Haji you can’t hit a ball better than that and especially at that moment, so it's just amazing.”

The chance to play at Wembley…

“I've heard quite some good stories about the stadium.

“I think 90,000 plus people that can fit inside the stadium so for me, it's going to be the first time to play in such a big stadium.

“I just can't wait to play there to see what it’s all about.”
