INTERVIEW: Mark Robins hails unbelievable performance as City come from behind to beat Wolves

16 March 2024

Mark Robins hailed his side for their unbelievable performance, as they came from behind in stoppage time to book their place in the FA Cup semi-finals.

City had been in front after Ellis Simms had opened the scoring, but Wolves came back and a quick-fire double put them in front.

However, despite the game being deep into added time, City continued to push and they rewarded with two quick-fire goals of their own, to beat Wolves and progress into the semi-finals.

Looking back at the game…

“Unbelievable performance. We were brave and we played really well. We had enough of the ball to cause them problems and we did that, but we didn’t take those chances and you look at it and think it’s going to come back to bite us.

We managed to get the first goal after a five-minute delay with the VAR check, but then they get two goals and in the 88th minute I asked the fourth official how long were left and he said 9 minutes.

You then try and make changes to make sure we have that positivity going into the last part of the game.

Things open up and we get the second goal, and we didn’t rest there, and we were on the front foot looking to get the winner and Haji’s finish was brilliant.”

Heading to Wembley…

“But we had to be brave and the confidence we’ve got, and they will take that into the rest of the season and there’s a Wembley trip for everyone to get excited about and you could see the reaction of everyone and that’s what it’s all about.

This is just another reward for everyone for all the hard work that they do and continue to do.”

Simms and Wright scoring…

“Ellis is growing in confidence, not only from the goals he’s scoring and the team he’s scoring against, it can’t be underestimated.

Haji’s finish is incredible and that just shows the international quality that he has and I’m disappointed for him he’s not going away with the USA team this week, but that will come.”

Dennis Lawrence’s final game…

“We are a team. We lose Dennis which is a big blow, and we will miss him, but he has been a brilliant person to have around and it’s disappointing that we lose him.”
