INTERVIEW: Liam Kelly looks ahead to Watford and the journey over the last seven years

The captain previews tomorrow's clash with the Hornets...

With Mark Robins reaching seven years in charge, Liam Kelly looked back at the Manager’s spell and his own time at the club.

Kelly was the first signing under the second spell with Robins and has been on the journey throughout that period.

Ahead of the weekend’s trip to Watford, Kelly looked back at that period as well as the weekend’s trip to Vicarage Road.

The Manager reaching seven years in charge…

“It has come with playing regularly and confidence and getting to know other players and the players getting to know him and his strengths.

The form he is in at the moment is outstanding and to score two hat-tricks in three games is some feet and long may it continue.”

Kelly also being at Coventry for almost seven years…

“It’s gone by in a flash. There has been a lot of success along the way, and we’ve gone from playing at the CBS Arena to playing at St Andrew’s to Covid and then back to the CBS and there’s been a lot of success in between.

Long may it continue, and I don’t think anyone at the football club, or the manager will be looking at the past too much, we’re about the future and the present.”

Getting back into the side…

“It is what it is. I always keep myself fit and ready and just do the right things and stay professional and help my teammates out.

When the opportunity comes, I just have to take it and put in a good performance and lucky enough the last two games I’ve been involved in have gone well and hopefully there are more to come.”

Secret behind the longevity…

“Consistency and trying to get everything right off the football pitch. The training ground is getting better all the time and the fanbase is growing and the team keeps improving.

We need to keep improving every single day and not rest on our laurels and keep moving forward and I think that’s been key.”

How things stand in the league…

“We’re well placed.

The league table is quite clear of where everyone is and you know where you are and in this final run of games we have to give it everything you’ve got.

We’re three points off the play-offs and if we keep doing the right things and keep treating every game like it’s a cup final and if we pick up the points we need, just look at what happened last season, anything can happen, but hopefully we can go a step further.”

Coming up against Watford…

“It’s never an easy game when we go there.

They’re a squad full of quality and we know the dangers they possess and we’re going to have to make sure we prepare right and be at the top of our game and playing our best football to go there and hopefully get a result.”
