INTERVIEW: Joel Latibeaudiere gives West Brom reaction and speaks captaincy

The defender gave his thoughts after the final whistle...

Joel Latibeaudiere gave an honest assessment of City's performance in their 2-1 defeat to West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Joel captained the side yet again, but was unable to prevent City falling to defeat on the road in Championship action.

Speaking after the final whistle, Latibeaudiere gave his analysis of the team's performance against the Baggies.

Reflections on the game…

"We were too passive in the first half. We gave ourselves an uphill battle, but we still had chances to put away.

We had a lot of shots in the first half that we could have put away and I think they only had two shots, the whole game and they both went in and that was it.

At the end of the day, there's went in and ours didn't but in the first half, we were too passive as a team, and we didn't get close enough to them."

Being too passive...

"I felt like we weren't moving together as a team. We spoke about it at halftime we came out and we were a lot more aggressive.

We had Milan jumping on to their fullback and then Bobby swinging around and me covering the space. It was the same on the other side with Jay and Binksy.

We didn't recognise that in the first half, and they recognised where the space was against us. So we made the adjustment at halftime with the coaches and we were much better second half."

City’s chances within the match…

"Yeah, it's just having that belief and that arrogance to go and take on the shot believing in yourself.

I think we're lacking that a bit in the final third at the minute and we just need to get that confidence. We just need one of them.

We scored five goals the other day. Five great goals and we should have been flying with confidence coming into this game to hit the back of the net and we just weren't.

In the second half we made an adjustment, we got after the ball, Kasey won a great penalty and Haji tucked it away.

I definitely think we could have come away from here with more than we got."

Playing with the three at the back…

"That was just to cover the width, they like to play really expensive and also for us to get Callum and Kasey playing really close together.

We thought we could cause them a lot of problems around the box with them two playing as two 10s right next to each other.

We just didn't get it right off the ball. We were way too passive, showed them way too much respect and didn't get after them."

Moving into the final stages of the season…

"I think we're into like the last dozen now. We've got a home game now coming up where we need to go and the only option is to win.

We all want to be in the playoffs, and we all want to keep ourselves in playoff hunt. So, we've got a lot of teams to play that are above us.

We've got another game on Tuesday. You've got to scrub yourself off and bounce back."

On captaining the side…

"Yeah, it's a real honour for me. The gaffer spoke to me about it and I was over the moon with it especially to represent a club like Coventry.

Yeah, it's just tough when you get beat and you take a little bit more on as the leader of the team and yeah, I'm trying to work with that and find myself through that but I'm loving it."
