INTERVIEW: Jake Bidwell Rotherham United Reaction

The defender had a hand in three goals...

5 March 2024

Jake Bidwell looked back on a dominant performance for the Sky Blues, as they swept aside Rotherham United at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The defender had his say in the goals, helping to create three of them, including one assist for the Sky Blues.

City were 4-0 up at the break and the defender how that fast start helped ensure the game was 'pretty much done by half-time'.

The performance...

"There was an emphasise in the dressing room before the game to make sure we started well. Obviously, the last two league games we have not done that and have been behind early.

"There was a real focus on starting well tonight and having a solid platform to build on.

"I did not think we would be four nil up so early but the boys came out flying to be fair and the game was pretty much done by half-time."

Getting crosses into the box...

"We played with two strikers. As big as Haji (Wright) and Ellis (Simms) are, they are good with their feet as well.

"They are a real presence in the box and they can cause problems. It was not the sole gameplan but we said before the game, the lads playing at the back for them were not out-and-out centre halves, so we wanted to test them early on.

"The first (goal) was fortunate to say the least, but there were a couple good goals after that."

Ellis Simms' recent form...

"Everyone is made up for him. I said earlier on in the season he probably had not scored enough goals as he would have liked, but they seem to be flying in for him now.

"I cannot remember if it was his second or third, I thought it was a really good finish on the edge of the box.

"He is flying at the minute, and if we want to go on and achieve something we will need our goal scorers in form.

"It is Ellis at the minute, but Matty (Godden) and Haji have had their spells earlier in the season."

On the fourth goal down the lefthand side...

"It was a good move and a good set by Haji. It was a really good finish from Ellis, probably a sign where his confidence is at the moment.

"A couple of months ago, he probably might not have even taken the shot on.

"I am really pleased for him, he is a good lad in the dressing room, he works hard and it is good to see him getting those rewards."

The table standings...

"If you would have offered that at the start of the season we would have taken it.

"We have put ourselves in a really strong position, but we need to go and give it a massive push now with ten games left.

"Full throttle till the end of the season, everyone is going to be needed, hopefully we can achieve something special."

Watford away...

"They are a really dangerous team who should probably a couple places higher but on their day they are as dangerous as anyone.

"They are an athletic team, so we will need to be on it and on top of our game to go there and get something.

"Hopefully we can start a run going like the one in January."
