INTERVIEW: Ellis Simms looks back on his goals, hunt for the play-offs and three points on the road

The striker scored twice at the John Smith's Stadium...

Ellis Simms was delighted, as he helped fire the Sky Blues to three points at the John Smith's Stadium.

Ellis struck twice in the first half, as he took his tally to 16 goals for the season and 10 in his last six games.

The win moves the Sky Blues to 7th in the Championship, as they close in on the play-off places.

Good win and a couple of goals to go with it…

“Yeah, I'm delighted personally, and it was a decent team performance.

In the first half we started well, the second half was a bit sloppy myself included as well but, we managed to get the free points so that's the main thing.”

On his goals…

“Yeah, it was nice finish I still haven't watched it back yet. When you’re in good form and your confidence is high you just do things like that for example, just playing with no fear. So, it was nice.”

“I think as soon the ball left my foot, I thought I got great contact with the ball, so I felt it was a great strike and it went in.

(The Second) “It was a nice breakaway. We've got pace on the frontline; I think it was Milan who broke down on that right side and cut it back and I managed to find the bottom corner, so it was a nice second goal for me.”

Killing the game off…

“At two-nil whoever gets the next goal kind of decides the game. They got the next goal at, two-one then we were hanging on a little bit.

“I felt that we were in control of the game and just got a bit sloppy like I mentioned. But yeah, mistakes are going to happen when you're trying to play football, playing out from the back. It was great spirit to kind of stay solid and get the third.”

The growing partnership with Haji..

“Haji's very good as well, he's in a great run of form, finding the net. It was great finish on his left foot and that's what he's capable of.

“I think we're both powerful lads. We're both tall, powerful, strong. So, if things are not falling for me, it's falling for Haji and vice versa.

“It's a good threat to have both avenues on that left and through the middle as well. Sometimes he rolls inside so it’s a double threat through the middle. I think we are both in a good run of form.

“Hopefully both of us just keep going, keep scoring and just helping the team out.”

Closing on the top six…

“We're in and around it. That's all we can do really just focus on ourselves. Focus on getting as many points on the board as possible. Four wins in the last four; we're doing that.

“We've got another massive game on Monday; we just need to keep performing well and keep getting the points.”

The fans…

“Yes. It's amazing, especially with our fan base. I think we sold out the allocation.

“When you hear that roar behind you it's just an honourable moment, it makes you feel good, that they're supporting you; the fans are behind you so just want to keep it coming.”
