City come from behind to beat Leicester...

13 January 2024

Milan van Ewijk struck three minutes from time and Callum O'Hare in injury time to secure three points for the Sky Blues against Leicester City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The Foxes had gone in front after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored from the spot, moments before Abdul Fatawu was shown a red card.

Then in the second half, City drew level through a well-worked goal, which was finished off by O’Hare, before van Ewijk struck from the edge of the area.

There was time for another with seconds left on the clock, as O'Hare struck his second of the game.

The first shot on goal saw City catch Leicester on the break as Josh Eccles disposed Harry Winks and picked out Kasey Palmer and the midfielder then teed up Matty Godden, but his shot was saved by Mads Hermansen.

City were denied by the woodwork minutes later when a superb run from Tatsuhiro Sakamoto saw him beat his man and force Hermansen to tip the ball onto the post.

Another chance and another one to go to the way of the Sky Blues, this time it was Palmer who won the ball back and released an effort which went narrowly wide.

The visitors came close to opening the scoring themselves after the half-hour mark as Cesare Casadei found space in the area, but he pulled his shot wide of goal.

Leicester would take the lead from the spot after Bobby Thomas was ajudged to have committed a foul in the area. Dewsbury-Hall stepped-up and he found the bottom corner.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 0-1 Leicester City

The Sky Blues started the second half in search of a leveller, and they almost had it when Milan van Ewijk picked out Godden in the box, but his header was saved by Hermansen.

Collins was called into action at the other end, punching away a shot on the turn from Tom Cannon, after the striker had rolled his man.

That save would prove crucial as the Sky Blues would get level and Ellis Simms came off the bench to make an immediate impact, as he beat his man, found Jay Dasilva, who teed up O’Hare and he found the bottom corner.

City pushed for a winner and they found three minutes from time after the ball fell to van Ewijk on the edge of the area and he foubnd the bottom corner.

There was time for another with seconds left on the clock, as O'Hare scored his second of the game to wrap up the points.
