City comfortable winners at Pack Meadow...

22 January 2024

The Sky Blues Under-21s were comfortable winners, as they eased past Coleshill Town to advance in the Birmingham Senior Cup.

City started the game on the front foot, but were restricted to shots from distance, with Evan Eghosa and Marco Rus firing wide.

At the other end, Jonathan Letford thought he’d scored when he lifted the ball over Luke Bell, but Josh Gordon was on hand to clear the ball off the line.

Gordon was then involved at the other end, getting on the end of a Conrad Ambursley cross, but he couldn’t direct his volley on target and it went over the bar.

HALF-TIME: Coleshill Town 0-0 Sky Blues

The hosts had the best chance of the game in the second half, as they created space down the left and the ball fell to Jack Whelan, but Luke Bell produced a fine stop.

The Sky Blues would be the ones to make the breakthrough and the goal came just before the hour mark.

Evan Eghosa was brought down in the area and the referee pointed to the spot and Marco Rus stepped up to take it and dispatched the ball into the back of the net.

The midfielder came close to adding his and Coventry’s second five minutes later, but his curling effort from distance whistled over the bar.

The game was wrapped up ten minutes from time and it came after a superb run from MacKenzie Stretton, eventually ended with Eghosa producing a thunderous strike to beat Lewis Fenney at his near post.

The goal scoring wasn’t finished there and five minutes later, Bradley Stretton was in the right place at the right time in the area to add a third.
