OFFICIALS: Referee Watch versus Oxford United

3 January 2024

Josh Smith has been confirmed as Referee for Saturday's Emirates FA Cup tie between Coventry City and Oxford United at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

City host the U's in the Third Round tie on Saturday 6th January, with kick-off at 12:30pm. Click here for ticket info.

Smith will be assisted by Matthew Jones and Carl Fitch-Jackson, whilst Peter Wright will act as fourth official.

Smith started refereeing on the Peterborough and District Junior Alliance League aged 14 in 2006, following in the footsteps of both his dad and grandfather who had refereed football and rugby league respectively.

In 2015, Smith was promoted to the EFL Assistant Referee list completing three years on the list before opting to specialise as a referee. He then received successive promotions from the National League onto the EFL referees list and then to the Select Group 2 List of Referees.

In 2020 he officiated the League Two Play-Off Semi Final between Colchester United and Exeter City - the first game back in the EFL post Covid-19.

This will be Smith's first Sky Blues game this season - he refereed City twice last season, in the home league games against Norwich City and Hull City.

In 23 matches this campaign, he's shown 88 yellow cards and 5 red cards.
