INTERVIEW: Mark Robins previews clash with Sheffield Wednesday, provides Wright update and reflects on Torp's first week

City take on the Owls this weekend...

19 January 2024

City boss Mark Robins is preparing his side for the first of back-to-back trips to Hillsborough, as his side face Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship first up.

The Emirates FA Cup draw saw City handed another trip to Yorkshire for the first of two games in six days against the Owls.

The Sky Blues come up against Danny Rohl’s side this weekend in the league first, as they look to maintain their recent unbeaten run.

Wednesday have picked up since Rohl’s arrival at the club and Robins knows tomorrow will be a difficult task for his side.

Coming up against Sheffield Wednesday…

“They are in good form and you’re talking about them picking up 1.6 points a game roughly around that.

“We know they’re going to be a really good opponent and difficult to play against. We know what's coming and we know what to expect and we are ready for that.

“They have changed since Danny's come in. He's changed and they are working really hard and they are going after the games and being successful a lot of the time.

“They had a brilliant win in the Cup against Cardiff the week before and really Southampton could do that to anybody.

“I think they've got the top players and they're on a brilliant run themselves, so there'll be saying that to their players.

“We'll travel up there but we're in good form and we're in good spirit and we want to keep this good form up.”

Recent unbeaten run…

“I think we've been pretty good value for all of those wins and the goals that we’re scoring are coming from numerous places, so that's pleasing.

“From that there's a lot of confidence gleaned and the squad is in a good place ready to go and if called upon the ready to play.”

Back-to-back games at Hillsborough…

“The calendar produces these fixtures. I don't think necessarily it's ideal for either side  but we've both progressed through and we’ve been drawn away from home and it just so happens we're playing Sheffield Wednesday in a league game the week before.

“It’s two different games, two different competitions and I'll pick a team first and foremost to go and play tomorrow and after that we'll look at the selection next week.”

Training at the Coventry Building Society Arena…

“It is bitter cold, so we've been training at the stadium which is good.

“They’ve come in and trained as well as you'd expect them to do. Obviously, it's a little bit different because we're at the stadium but they train really well.”

Victor Torp’s first week…

“He’s settled in really well, as you'd expect. He is a good player and there are alot of good signs there.

“He still has got to work to break into the team and to get himself up to speed but he's doing what you'd expect him to do.

“He has trained at the stadium so he sort of gets that feel for what it's like, which I think can be a real positive really.

“We'll see how it develops, but he's a really good lad and he speaks brilliant English and he has settled in really well.

“He's still a way away from playing, but he's, he's working towards it. He's been working pretty hard in the sessions that he's played and he's getting used to the way that we play in training.”

Haji Wright update…

“He's on the grass, so he's getting closer and that means that the injury has healed sufficiently and now we're just going to sort of make sure that the final part of it is  right before we reintroduce him, but I think he'll be on the grass with us and start being reintegrated into training.”
