INTERVIEW: Kai Andrews discusses first professional contract and aims for the future

Kai Andrews was delighted after he agreed his first professional contract with Coventry City.

The 17-year-old has agreed terms on a deal that runs until June 2026, after an impressive season with the Under-21s, and the first team.

Andrews made his debut for City against Middlesbrough in the Sky Bet Championship earlier this season, a reward for his hard work during pre-season.

Speaking after signing his first contract, Andrews spoke about his aims for the future and how proud he is to have earned his first pro deal.

Signing his first professional contract…

“It’s an unbelievable moment and it’s everything I’ve been working towards since I joined the Club six years ago as a youth player.

“I’m so thankful to all the staff in the Academy and the first team that have helped me to get to here and it’s just an amazing moment.”

His time rising through the Academy…

“There’s been many ups and downs. There were times where I was finding hard to get into the squad and I was struggling to get minutes, but I never gave up.

“I’ve always kept going and now it’s paid off and I just want to keep putting more in now every day in training and every time I train with the first team.

“I just need to keep improving now and hopefully have success in the future at this Club.”

Being called up to first team training in pre-season…

“It was a big shock to be fair when I heard I was training with the first team.

“Then when I got here and I was around the players, professional athletes, day in day out, you just learn so much as a player and it really helped me develop as a player and a person.”

Making his first team debut earlier in the season…

“That was amazing. The atmosphere and the way the fans and the players welcomed me onto the pitch it a moment that I will never forget.”

Aims for the rest of the season…

“I just want to keep getting as many minutes as I can with the Under-21s and gaining as much experience as I can in that league.

“Then, I want to try and keep myself at the Sky Blue Lodge, training with the first team and continue learning and developing as a player.”
