INTERVIEW: Jay Dasilva looks ahead to FA Cup tie and enjoying his time at Coventry

City face Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup...

25 January 2024

Jay Dasilva spoke of his ‘excitement’ as City prepare for their fourth-round tie with Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.

The defender will be looking to help the Sky Blues progress into the next round of the competition, when they travel to Hillsborough for the second time in the space of a week.

Speaking ahead of the game, Dasilva looked back at his time here, aiming to get back into the team and tomorrow’s fixture.

Travelling to Hillsborough again…

“It’s a bit weird. We were just there six days ago, so it will be a little strange doing the same trip again, but the lads are all ready to do it again and hopefully progress into the next round.”

Looking to progress in the FA Cup…

“I’m excited. The FA Cup is massive, there’s history around it and it’s a big tournament in this country and I love playing in it.”

Being out of the starting eleven…

“It’s been quite difficult. Every player wants to play at the end of the day, but the boys are doing really well, and we’ve picked up some points and playing well.

“Everyone gets along and we’re in a good place. Obviously, everyone wants to play, but when we’re winning, I can’t say too much.”

Making himself ready to go…

“When you’re not happy about starting, you can’t moan or sulk about it, you have to be ready to come on and do the right things and make sure you’re ready to take your chance when it comes.

“If it is coming off the bench, then try and make an impact, but then when you do get a start, take it.”

The change of formation and from wing-backs…

“I do think I’m a natural left-back, I think that’s my natural position to be honest.

“I think that once we switched to the four at the back, we’ve picked up some good results and we’ve looked comfortable.

“If I’m being honest, I would struggle to change the team too if I was the manager.”

Speaking to the manager…

“Everyone is different. You can voice your opinion and frustration, but ultimately the main thing is work hard every day and do the right things, that shows him that you’re ready.”

Enjoying the race for the top six…

You could say my last few seasons have been the same. A run a couple of wins here, inconsistency, lose some games and a midtable finish, it’s been the same.

“But, ever since stepping through the door here, it’s been a breath of fresh air and I’ve really been enjoying it and we’re building and climbing up the table.”

Looking back at the last six months…

“It’s been really enjoyable, and I just need to get back into the team now and help the boys, that’s what I would love to do.”
