The Sky Blues progress in the FA Youth Cup...

17 January 2024

The Sky Blues booked their place in the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup with victory against Barnsley at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

City fell behind early on, but they were level almost immediately through a Rylie Siddall strike.

A goal from Kai Andrews and a stunner from Conrad Ambursley before the break were complimented by an Aidan Dausch strike late on to see off the Tykes and produce a memorable win.

It wasn’t the start City would have been after, as they fell behind inside the opening 70 seconds, when Fabio Jalo found the back of the net.

However, they didn’t let that get them down and the Sky Blues were level just two minutes later as Rylie Siddall kept a calm head to find the bottom corner from inside of the area.

Just under ten minutes later and City had completed a turnaround, catching Barnsley on the break and it was Kai Andrews who charged forward and beat Rogan Ravenhill to fire the Sky Blues in front.

That lead was doubled and in spectacular style through Conrad Ambursley. The City man picked up the ball on the edge of the area and picked out the top corner to make it 3-1.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 3-1 Barnsley

Mark Delaney’s side went close to making the perfect start to the second half, but they and Charlie Finney were denied by the woodwork, after his cross had Ravenhill beaten.

City were on top in the game and were looking stretch their lead, but they were denied by a fine stop to prevent Aidan Dausch getting his name on the scoresheet.

Dausch was denied again ten minutes from time, winning the ball back and looking for the near post, but Ravenhill made the stop and then got up quick to keep out Siddall on the follow-up

Siddall then thought he had the game sewn up, racing through on goal and watching on as his shot whistled inches the post.

Then in the 90th minute, City booked their place into the next round after Dausch got his goal, with a superb strike from distance.

Fabio Jalo pulled one back late on for the Tykes, but it would prove to only be a consolation.
