Ellis Simms scored the only goal of the game, as the Sky Blues beat Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium.
Simms slotted the ball past Jack Bonham at the start of the second half to ensure the three points would be coming back to Coventry.
City also picked up a tenth clean sheet of the season, as they remain in the top six in the Championship.
The Sky Blues were unlucky not to take the lead after ten minutes. A ball into the box from Tavares was met by the head of Haji Wright and he was denied by Jack Bonham, then the ‘keeper denied Ellis Simms on the follow-up and then Ben Wilmot deflected Callum O’Hare’s effort onto the post.
The hosts were restricted to strikes from distance, but they were unable to trouble Ben Wilson, with a strike from Lynden Gooch blocked by Luis Binks.
Before the break, a ball into the box from Jay Dasilva was met by the head of Ellis Simms, but Jack Bonham gathered in the Stoke goal.
HALF-TIME: Stoke City 0-0 Sky Blues
Five minutes into the second half and the Sky Blues found themselves in front and it was a second in as many games for Ellis Simms.
Haji Wright won the ball back in the Stoke half and O’Hare played a first time through ball for Simms and he slotted the ball past Bonham and into the back of the net.
The Potters made a triple change on the hour mark as they looked to get back into the game and a chance fell to Nathan Lowe, but he fired over the bar.
A Bobby Thomas block prevented the hosts a way back in, as this time it was a Lewis Baker strike which the City centre-back got his body in the way of.
City had a chance to see the game off ten minutes from time as a break saw Wright slide the ball into Eccles and pulled it back for Haji, but he couldn’t direct his effort on target.
Stoke introduced Million Manhoef in the second half and he did well to beat Dasilva and then he cut inside but struck the ball into the side netting.
