City progress into the fifth round of the FA Cup...

6 February 2024

The Sky Blues saw past Sheffield Wednesday to set-up a tie with Maidstone United in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Kasey Palmer got the scoring underway, before the Owls levelled through Bailey Cadamarteri to head into the break level.

Then, an eight-minute spell saw City blow Sheffield Wednesday away, with Callum O'Hare scoring twice and Haji Wright scoring a fourth to secure a passage into the next round.

It was an electric start to the game, and it took just under two minutes for the Sky Blues to race into the lead and it was that man Kasey Palmer who found the back of the net.

Kasey picked up the ball in the area, skipped past one, then another and then another, before unleashing a powerful effort past Pierce Charles.

The Owls looked for a way back into the game, but they were restricted to shots from range which didn’t trouble Ben Wilson in the City goal.

However, the pressure would pay off for Danny Rohl’s side, when Bailey Cadamarteri fired in from close range to draw the visitors level.

The Sky Blues were in search of an immediate response and the crowd inside of the CBS Arena thought they had it when Callum O’Hare strike went narrowly wide and into the side netting.

City had shouts for a penalty turned away 20 minutes in after a Palmer strike appeared to come back off a Wednesday arm, but the referee waved it away.

The Sky Blues were continuing to push and a superb Josh Eccles interception saw the midfield pick out Haji Wright in the middle, but his shot went narrowly wide of goal.

Kasey Palmer was running things in the middle, and he chased the ball down, won it back on the halfway line, before beating his man and picking out the run of Wright, but his effort was saved well by Charles.

HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

The second half begun how the first half had, with the Sky Blues taking the lead and this time it was Palmer turning provider for O’Hare and he turned and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

O’Hare’s first goal was good, but ten minutes later he went one better, scoring a sensational strike from the edge of the area, leaving Charles with no chance.

City were running away with it in the second half, and they had a fourth less than a minute later when Jay Dasilva picked out Haji Wright at the back post and he headed the ball home.

The visitors best opportunity of the second half came from an Ashley Fletcher strike from distance, but it went well wide of goal.

Victor Torp scored a stunner against the Owls in the previous fixture and he almost added to that collection with five minutes left on the clock, bending the ball inches wide of Charles' goal.
