NEWS: Coventry City show support for LGBTQ+ community at Friday's game

20 February 2024

Coventry City will be showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community at this Friday’s home game against Preston North End.

This is LBTQ+ History Month, and the EFL and Puma have teamed up to unveil the very first Rainbow match ball which will be used by all 72 Clubs across Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two matches from 16th-24th February.

Coventry City are going a step further, emphasising their continued support for the LGBTQ+ community, as we face Preston North End at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Friday 23rd February (7:45pm kick-off).

The matchday programme, PUSB, will feature information about ‘Proud Sky Blues’ – our recently established Supporter Group for LGBTQ+ fans. Their logo will also be shown on the big screen throughout the night, too.

There will also be special content on the scoreboard and tannoy throughout the matchday.

The Coventry City squad will wear special t-shirts during the warm up for the game, while coaching and non-playing staff will also wear badges to display their support, plus our mascot Sky Blue Sam as well.

Doug King, Coventry City Owner and Executive Chairman, said:

“We’re very pleased to show our support for the LGBTQ+ community and supporters at our game against Preston North End.

“Proud Sky Blues have been working closely with the Club since their formation and have already done an excellent job in engaging fans on this important topic and representing LBTQ+ fans.

“We have a number of activities planned for the game that will make clear the support of everyone at Coventry City.

“As a Club, and as a community, we are clear in our determination to make our games and football a place for everyone and a place that is free of discrimination.”
