INTERVIEWS: Mark Robins looks ahead to Preston North End and provides Torp update

Mark Robins said his side are in ‘good spirits’ ahead of Friday night’s clash against Preston North End at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

City take on PNE in Championship action, the first of two games in the space of four days and three in a week.

Last time out, the Sky Blues picked up three points against Stoke City, thanks to an Ellis Simms strike.

Looking ahead to the game tomorrow night, Robins is expecting a difficult challenge against Ryan Lowe’s side.

Taking on Preston North End this weekend…

“There’s a lot of optimism around and everyone is in good spirits and looking forward to the game.

Preston are a tough team, they have some good players and some real good experience and they will try and put us under pressure and it will be a real challenge, but one we can look forward to.

If we can put in a positive performance and get the three points then that bodes well going into the game the week after against West Brom, with Maidstone in between.”

Looking back at last time out against PNE…

“It did give us food for thought and things changed dramatically off the back of that and that was the line in the sand.

Since that game we’ve done pretty well and played some good football and picked up some good results and prior to that we had played well in games, but won not enough, drew quite a few, didn’t lose many but we were trying to find our rhythm.

That coincided that we made a lot of changes to the squad and that made an impact as well but from that point on we’ve preformed much better and the points we’ve picked up are there for everyone to see.”

Facing another side in the mix for the top six…

“The only thing we can do is focus on ourselves and get everyone in the right physical and mental state to attack games and this is the next one of those.

It’s always a tough and competitive game against them and hopefully we can come out on the right end of a performance.”

How the team are looking…

“I gave them a few days off after Stoke and I think that some other manages have done the same thing because of the way the players look, and you know when they need a breather or to work harder.

It will have benefitted some more than others, but there has been some work done as well, it hasn’t been a total shut down.

It’s been a balancing act because we have got a small number and certain positions like the midfield position, since the injuries to Ben Sheaf and Jamie Allen puts you on the back foot because you try and give people rest and that’s not been possible.

We have a situation where we try and keep everyone as ready as we can to play in the games and they are thick and fast but that’s the nature of it.”

Victor Torp update…

“Victor is a little bit better; he’s not got any pain so he will be looked at today and then we will make a decision on him.

It’s balancing the risk against the reward, so we will have a look and make a decision later today once the physios have assessed him.”
