INTERVIEW: Kasey Palmer talks enjoying his football and focusing on West Brom clash

The midfielder previewed Friday night's clash...

29 February 2024

Sky Blues midfielder Kasey Palmer is enjoying his role in the side currently, as he and his teammates prepare for a Friday night trip to The Hawthorns.

Kasey had a hand in all three of the Ellis Simms goals against Maidstone United on Monday night, as he flourished in helping set-up a quarter-final tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, despite a successful cup run so far, Palmer reiterated himself and the Sky Blues are focusing on closing the gap on the top six, when they take on West Bromwich Albion.

Coming up against West Brom Friday night…

“It’s easy to play it down and say it’s another game, but we know what it means if we do win and what it means if we don’t.

We’re keen to go there and try and get the three points, but if we can’t do that then hopefully, we don’t lose and we stay in touch with everyone else in and around the play-offs.

There are still 12 games left for us to try and bridge that gap between ourselves and the top six.”

FA Cup draw against Wolves…

“It’s a Premier League team against a Championship team, so they will be the favourites, but we believe we can go there and get a result.

We’re one game away from Wembley and we would love to go again, as the fans will, and we will just go there and attack the game.

But we have the play-offs we’re trying to get into in-between that FA Cup game, so we’re all focusing on that and tomorrow night’s game.”

Another busy week…

“When the games come thick and fast, you’re obviously more tired than when the games are Saturday, Saturday, but that’s what the Championship is.

We’re on a cup run now as well, so it’s extra games and rescheduled games, but that’s what the squad is for, and we’ve been using the squad and giving everyone minutes.

The more games, the more minutes everyone gets to share, and everyone can help and contribute in winning which is the main thing.

It’s not about the eleven that starts the game, say tomorrow there could five potential subs and we have another game Tuesday, so everyone knows they have to be ready when called upon and it’s going to take everyone to help us get into the play-offs.”

His role on the pitch…

“I’m happy to be on the pitch.

If I play on the left, it’s not like I’m playing left-wing and standing on the touchline as an actual winger, I’ll be rolling in and linking up with Callum.

I’m happy to be on the pitch and getting minutes and hopefully I can help contribute.”

Being fit and ready to go…

“I’m enjoying being part of it. Last season I got injured for the business end of the season, but I’m fit now and hopefully we finish in the top six like last year, that would be the dream scenario.

We also have the FA Cup quarter-final as well, so it’s an exciting time for everyone associated with Coventry so long may it continue.”
