INTERVIEW: Ellis Simms on back-to-back goals and three points at Stoke

Ellis Simms is hoping to build on his goals in the last two games, as he fired the Sky Blues to three points against Stoke City.

Simms scored in the 2-2 draw with Plymouth midweek, backing that up with the winner at the bet365 Stadium in a 1-0 win.

Speaking after the final whistle, Simms looked back at the win against the Potters and his recent form.

Thoughts on the game…

"Yeah, we had to dig in deep today. We came here, we knew it was gonna be a tough game, but we've come away with the three points, which is the main thing."

On the goal…

"I think the ball from O'Hare, he slipped it through, and I just took it first time.

"I glanced up seeing the 'keepers positioning and I saw a little gap up the near post, so I just passed it into the corner. It's always nice in front of our fans to celebrate."

Scoring in front of the away fans…

"Yeah, it's nice. Today you've seen the massive following that they've brought and obviously they have to travel here so we just want to repay them. We need to perform well. I'm sure they're happy.

"We've got the three points, which is the main thing."

Feeling the expectation of scoring as a striker…

"I mean, me personally as a striker. I want to score goals. So sometimes when the ball is not quite dropping for you it's not quite going in you can lose a bit of confidence.

"You just have to carry on working hard in training that's all you can do really.

"I scored today and against Plymouth so hopefully I can build on it. The main thing is that the team's scoring goals, so there's not been too much pressure because the goals have been coming from the left, the right, number 10."

Starting to feel the goals coming with three in six games…

"It's nice. Just to chip in with the goals, three in six isn't a bad return, so I just want to keep building on it keep working hard and hopefully continue."

On playing a few different positions…

"Just where the manager puts me, at the minute I think we’re down to bare bones we've got a few injuries, so we need to be flexible really.

"Wherever the manager says I'm happy to work hard and play."

Looking onward to Preston…

"We know it's gonna be a tough game I think we came short at their place three - two. So, we want to go there, at home and keep the momentum and hopefully get the win."
