Charlie Finney scored the only goal of the game as the Sky Blues Under-21s returned to winning ways at the Alan Higgs Centre.
Finney was on the end of a low ball into the box, and he converted home in the 7th minute, in what would prove to be the games deciding goal.
The win was the first in the Professional Development League in 2024 for the Sky Blues, as they remain 10th.
It was the visitors who had the game’s first opportunity, but it was a fine stop from Luke Bell in the City goal to keep out Abdi Sharif from the edge of the area.
That save would prove vital, as a matter of minutes later, City were in front when Finney found the back of the net, turning in a ball in from the left.
That lead was almost doubled ten minutes later, but it wasn’t to be, as Elliot Betjemann was denied by the crossbar, having lifted the ball over the ‘keeper following a run into the area.
Before the break, Bell was alert to keep out Luke Brennan’s free-kick, getting his hand to the ball and tipping it onto the bar.
HALF-TIME: Sky Blues 1-0 Wigan Athletic
Following the restart, Wigan were pushing for a leveller, as they applied the pressure on the Sky Blues defence to get back into the game.
Youssef Chentouf headed wide from inside of the area and then Brennan struck an effort over the bar, but the City backline stayed resolute.
The Sky Blues withstood the pressure from the Latics and were able to see out the game and pick up three points and return to winning ways.
