Coventry City Football Club is seeking a First Team Sport Scientist to work full-time at the club’s Training Ground, and on match days.

Working with the Coventry City first team, this role expands on the current the performance provision to help us achieve our collective objectives. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Performance Department which include the delivery of daily warm ups, monitoring and testing of the players, and the collection and reporting of data at a high level.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with an experienced and established performance team to develop, implement and evaluate sport science provision within the club.  

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ROLE:

  • Report daily to the Head of Sports Science and contribute to the formal departmental and interdepartmental meetings
  • Be present at all first team training sessions and matches
  • Develop and implement sports science strategies in collaboration with department staff to optimise the squad’s ability to perform throughout the season
  • Lead and/or assist with the delivery of daily warm ups to ensure the players are prepared for training with periodised and individualised physical development
  • Effectively record and monitor daily training/match load with the combined use of heart rate and GPS monitoring systems
  • Monitor training load live, including goalkeepers and pitch-based rehab, and report & advise effectively in real-time
  • Ensure detailed records of all player activities are maintained in accordance with departmental operating procedures
  • Produce relevant reports for the players, performance and coaching staff that detail physical profiling, loads and training status of the players
  • Supervise/contribute to recovery methods using evidence-based methods and techniques
  • Monitor Coventry City players loaned in/out and on international duty and provide relevant information as required
  • Contribute to appropriate CPD for the Performance Department and Academy as required
  • The post-holder may be required to carry out other duties to assist with the smooth functioning of the Performance Department as required by the Head of Sports Science and/or the Performance Director.

Qualifications, Skills, Criteria

Essential

  • Postgraduate Degree in Sport Science (or equivalent)
  • FA Level 2 Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF; or equivalent)
  • Experience of working in a professional football environment
  • Experience using a heart rate and GPS monitoring system
  • Computer literacy with high level of expertise in Excel and Power BI
  • Enhanced DBS
  • The ability to communicate concisely, assertively, and effectively
  • Full and valid driving licence
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
