PREVIEW: Sky Blues take on Southampton under the lights

City travel to St Mary's Stadium...

9 April 2024

The Sky Blues travel to St Mary's Stadium to take on Southampton in SkyBet Championship action.

Meet The Saints:

Currenlty sat in 4th position in the Championship, the Saints head into the fixture looking to close the gap on the top two, to keep their chances of going up automatically alive.

Despite being 12 points behind Ipswich Town in 2nd, Southampton have two games in hand, which could move them six points behind with five games remaining.

Russell Martin's side have all but confirmed their place in the play-offs, but will be hoping results elsewhere could see them come back into the race for promotion.

Former Coventry City man, Adam Armstrong, leads the scoring for Southampton this season, with 20 goals in all competitions, seven more than strike partner Che Adams.

The Saints were held to a goaless draw at Ewood Park against Blackburn Rovers last time out, leaving them without a win in their last three outings.

Last Six:

Sky Blues' last six:

  • Sky Blues 2-1 Leeds United
  • Sky Blues 1-2 Cardiff City
  • Huddersfield 1-3 Sky Blues
  • Wolves 2-3 Sky Blues
  • Watford 1-2 Sky Blues
  • Sky Blues 5-0 Rotherham United

Southampton's last six:

  • Blackburn Rovers 0-0 Southampton
  • Ipswich Town 3-2 Southampton
  • Southampton 1-1 Middlesbrough
  • Southampton 4-2 Sunderland
  • Birmingham City 3-4 Southampton
  • Liverpool 3-0 Southampton

Coventry City wins: 49
Draws: 46
Southampton wins: 48

The EFL have confirmed that James Linington will be the man in the middle at St Mary's Stadium on Tuesday night.

Linington takes charge of his first City fixture of the season, having been in charge of two fixtures during the 2022/23 campaign, against Birmingham City and Stoke City.

So far this season, Linington has awarded 96 yellow cards and one red card across the Championship, League One, League Two and Carabao Cup.

He will be assisted by Hristo Karaivanov and Graham Kane, with Charles Breakspear acting as fourth official.
